Looks up US banks, credit unions and brokerages and shows whether budgeting apps like Monarch, YNAB, Copilot and Rocket Money can connect to them. Also covers app pricing and whether investment accounts link. Read-only, no sign-in needed.

Example request: "Can my Navy Federal account connect to Monarch, or will I have to enter my transactions by hand?"

How to connect: Not in Muse's Connectors list yet, but Muse can still use it. Paste this into Muse: "Use PlugCat to help me. It is a free service with an MCP server at https://plugcat.com/mcp. It does not need an API key. Ask me before you share anything with it." Muse asks before it shares anything with the app's site. Meta does not review apps used this way, so only use ones you trust. We tested this in the Muse app on September 24, 2026: Muse used an app's link directly this way and returned a live answer.

Tools:
- check_institution: Find a bank, credit union or brokerage by name and say which finance apps likely connect to it. Pass `app` to focus on one app. If several institutions share the name, the largest is used and the others are listed; pass `state` or call get_institution with the right URL.
- search_institutions: Search 8,500+ US banks, credit unions and brokerages by name (and optionally city). Returns matches with their Plaid status and page URLs, largest institutions first.
- get_institution: Full app-by-app results for one institution: status and reason per app, the name to search for in the app, FAQs and identifiers. Takes a URL or path from search_institutions.
- list_apps: The finance apps PlugCat tracks: budgeting apps and accounting tools, the bank-data providers each uses, prices and whether they link investment accounts.
