## Open Signals

Real-time public hazard, water, weather and EPA data with source and licence on every reading

- Record: https://musedirectory.ai/connector/open-signals
- Category: Research & Data
- Developer: Civops Platform (https://open-signals.civops.io)
- Muse status: Extra setup. Not in Muse's Connectors list yet. Muse can still use it: its page gives you a request to paste into Muse.
- Health: Working, 105ms, checked 2026-10-29T09:30:53Z
- Endpoint: https://open-signals.civops.io/mcp
- Auth: No account needed; Pricing: unknown
- Screening: Screened, no issues found (2026-10-29T02:31:07Z)
- Source: Found in the official MCP Registry (io.github.Civops-Platform/open-signals) https://registry.modelcontextprotocol.io/v0/servers?search=io.github.Civops-Platform%2Fopen-signals

Aggregates public environmental data from NOAA, USGS, EPA and other sources. Muse can fetch current readings for weather, water levels, earthquakes, air quality and hazards at specific locations, with full provenance and licence information.

Example request: "Show me the current water level at the USGS gauge near my town and whether it's above normal."

How to connect: Not in Muse's Connectors list yet, but Muse can still use it. Paste this into Muse: "Use Open Signals to help me. It is a free service with an MCP server at https://open-signals.civops.io/mcp. It does not need an API key. Ask me before you share anything with it." Muse asks before it shares anything with the app's site. Meta does not review apps used this way, so only use ones you trust. We tested this in the Muse app on September 24, 2026: Muse used an app's link directly this way and returned a live answer.

Tools:
- search_sources: Search the catalogue of public data sources (weather, water, hazards, flights, ships, energy, filings, trade, ...). Each entry gives the API, coverage, cadence, auth needed and licence. Use it to find where a kind of data comes from before writing a fetcher.
- get_source: One catalogue entry in full.
- list_hubs: Projects and catalogues that collect sources (God's Eye View, World Monitor, the MCP Registry, Source Cooperative, ...), with how each relates to this one.
- list_places: Named places the fetchers read for, with their upstream ids (CO-OPS station, USGS gauge, eBird region) and tags.
- get_readings: Fetch current readings from one source, each with value, unit, a one-line summary, place and provenance (source, URL, fetch time, licence). Sources this server will not republish (non-commercial, restricted or unreviewed licence) answer with an error naming the licence.
- list_datasets: Static public datasets this server holds as GeoJSON (wildfire burn perimeters, public-land share by county, federal campgrounds, fire-weather stations), with source, licence, feature count and parts (one per state, or "all").
- get_dataset_part: The URL of one part of a dataset as GeoJSON, plus its description. Fetch the URL for the features; parts can be several megabytes.
- list_layers: Map layers this server can draw as GeoJSON, with unit, source, licence, whether it is available here, and how to read it.
- get_layer: One map layer as a GeoJSON FeatureCollection: one point per place with the reading on the date (else the latest observed before it, never a guess), or one point per event for event layers.

Screening checks:
- MCP handshake: pass (Answered in 823ms)
- Domain against threat feeds (Cloudflare security DNS): pass (open-signals.civops.io not flagged)
- Published packages against the OSV malicious-package database: n/a (No npm or PyPI package published)
- Hidden instructions or invisible characters in tool text: pass (7 tools read, nothing found)
- Inputs asking for passwords, card numbers or seed phrases: pass (None found)
- Domain and redirects: pass (No redirects off the domain)
- AI review of purpose and tool behavior: pass (No concerns)
